Guiding Principles
Principles are those ideals or standards that guide our methods, attitudes, and behavioral practices in working with clients. ACFJC Guiding Principles set the expected performance ideals or standards for how ACFJC staff and partners work with clients seeking services. Our Guiding Principles include the following:
- We adhere to the principle of human rights for victims of domestic violence: every individual is entitled to legal, health, and support services, and the opportunity for physical and psychological recovery and well-being.
- We promote equitable access and quality care for the diverse communities in Alameda County. We believe everyone should have equitable access to a continuum of services and resources, both short-term and long-term, as necessary, and that culturally and linguistically competent staff should be available to provide such services. We strive to be flexible in offering needed services to our distinctly diverse communities.
- As a client-focused, client-driven center, we see each client as a unique individual with special circumstances, deserving of personalized services. We value her/his strengths and needs; strive to provide options and choices for decision-making and empowerment, while continually valuing and integrating what each client brings to their own process of recovery and healing. Ultimately, we are committed to a gateway process of self-sufficiency where clients journey from victim to survivor to thriving community member.
- We uphold the confidentiality of client work and ensure client safety. We are committed to treating all clients with respect and empathy, and in a manner that warrants their trust.
- We design, implement, and evaluate effective program services with measurable results. We manage our service delivery based on mutually agreed upon goals and objectives to ensure effective coordination. We seek feedback from our clients, collect data, and continuously strive for enhanced program effectiveness. We hold ourselves accountable to our clients and to each other.
